Join us to learn about three emerging and evolving trends in genre fiction. Maureen Collier will address the growing popularity of domestic thrillers, or “chick noir”. Kristina Parlee will talk about trends in Science fiction and how the genre is reaching more mainstream audiences. Finally Julia Khodos will shed light on a new genre – New Adult Fiction.

Julia Khodos is a librarian who is passionate about public libraries. She has a unique opportunity to work with an excellent team and juggle a variety of responsibilities at the Halifax Public Libraries: readers’ advisory, reference, small business service, and social media. When Julia is not at the library and not glued to a digital screen, she takes her black lab Leia for long walks, spends time in her little flower garden, and enjoys a cup of cappuccino.

Since 2012, Kristina Parlee has been the Adult Collection Development Librarian for Halifax Public Libraries and she previously worked as Adult Services Librarian at HPL's Spring Garden Road location. Throughout her career she has had a focus on Readers Advisory, and enjoys hearing and sharing the latest news on current and popular reading.

Maureen Collier has been Information and Readers Services Manager for Halifax Central Library since 2013 and has spent 20 years as a librarian with Halifax Public Libraries in a variety of positions, always with a strong focus on Readers Services.
